HONOKA'A, HAWAII
Remodel, New Construction
Situated with unparalleled views of Waipio Valley, this home underwent a substantial transformation and expansion under new ownership. The existing architectural design eflected Hawaiian-style cottage elements typical of the Hamakua coastline. However, the new owners had a distinct vision, merging functionality and historical narratives ooted in their birthplaces to create an industrial farmhouse. The basement of the main house was converted into a versatile space, featuring a workout facility and a private workshop. An expansive ipe deck connects various living spaces and offers panoramic valley and ocean views. A new cottage was constructed on the property’s upper part, serving as a private getaway or overflow space for guests.
Notably, the integration of a PV solar array and rainwater collection system demonstrates a commitment to sustainability, enhancing self-sufficiency for the property. By blending functionality, historical narratives, and sustainable practices we fulfilled the client’s vision while enhancing the property’s versatility and charm.
